How do you pronounce your company’s name?
ōh-kō | nō-kō - each word is two syllables each, where the o’s are long o sounds.
What does the name mean?
The name is a play on our children's initials – A. K. and N.K., because they are the ones who inspired this chapter of our lives.
How long have you been in business?
We launched the first Fall collection on our website at the end of November 2017.
Where is your business located?
We’re based in New York City, a short subway ride from the Garment District in Manhattan but close enough to our boys’ school so that we’re available to attend school functions and tend to the occasional phone call from the school nurse.
Where is your product manufactured?
The majority of our product is sourced and manufactured in the USA with the exception of the sweaters which are done in Peru. We decided to use this factory when we found out their vision is to support and empower women as the lead role models for their families, communities and society - one of the main missions of our own company.

Why is manufacturing domestically important?
We don’t think we’re the only parents that value quality and craftsmanship, especially when it comes to the clothes that touch our children's skin. In order to ensure that products are made ethically and as sustainable as possible, we choose to manufacture domestically. This allows us to keep an eye on production more often and ensure our high quality standards are met. While this enables us to reduce our carbon footprint, the reality is giving back to our local community is going to cost a little more. For us, the knowledge that we’re economically supporting our neighbors and doing our part to take care of the environment through efficient manufacturing processes justifies the price. The bonus is well made clothes last longer and can be passed on from sibling to sibling, friend to friend, and neighbor to neighbor.
Where can we find your product?
In order to reduce costs and give the most value back to our customers, we currently cut out the “middle-man” and sell our products exclusively through our website.
Co-founder and Creative Director, Stephen, comes with 18 years of design experience in the fashion industry. He has held Design Director positions at many menswear brands ranging from Designer to Fast Fashion markets, including Ralph Lauren, SIMON SPURR, Joe Fresh, Kent & Curwen, and Gieves & Hawkes. He’s passionate about brand building and more importantly creating a childrenswear brand that everyone can be proud of.
Prior to starting the brand, Co-founder, Communications Director and self-described Queen-of-all-trades, Alice, was an NYC social worker focused on counseling individuals and families in need along with being a kick-ass mom. She’s an avid social media maven and fashion enthusiast. Her heart for building relationships, keen fashion sense, and social media prowess are important parts of our company’s engine.
